How Trainings Are Developed

All of the VVDB basic and advanced trainings are based on the  system of care and wraparound process core values listed on this website as "Community Values". In 1998, John and Jim undertook a three state effort, beginning in Michigan, to define these values in terms of how they were carried out at three levels: Direct Practice, Supervisory, and Community Team/Partners levels. VVDB staff met with large numbers of stakeholders in each state defining values into actions and prioritizing and further evolving the values into performance indicators. When this work was complete, VVDB had a clear view of what it takes to implement the system of care and wraparound process at these multiple levels. VVDB then took the prioritized performance indicators and constructed advanced curriculums from the defined core values.

"At the heart of all VVDB work is the belief that values are not values unless they are carried out in practice. The advanced trainings help community staff understand and carry out their community’s values."

Performance indicators are being refined and individualized on an ongoing basis to local culture. In addition, daily and follow-up evaluation is molding the training and workshop. Together, these processes result in continually improving materials, activities, and teaching techniques.
