Customized Trainings for
States and Local Communities

One of the major products offered by VVDB is development of new and customized trainings for state-wide initiatives, regions, and localities. This effort is based on the VVDB value to individualize our training efforts in the same way that services should be individualized for children and families. Many areas have found that contracting with VVDB is a cost-effective way to develop, customize materials with local names and teams on them, and that reflect the unique strengths, needs, culture, and preferences of their areas.

Process of Development and Customization of Training for States and Communities

In this process, states, regions, or localities first systematically assess their own training needs (or contract with VVDB to assess the needs), and work with VVDB to develop tailored training products. VVDB then takes the results of the assessments, works with areas to develop unique training curriculum. VVDB works with communities to assess the knowledge of trainees related to the prioritized curriculum and the actual training may be further customized based on this assessment. The customized curriculum and materials is available to the local area to use for other staff and families at that location. In some cases VVDB may be contracted to revise curriculum once implemented and train and support local staff to provide the training.

Examples of Popular Trainings Produced

Some of the most sought after VVDB customized trainings are 101 and 201 Wraparound, Community Team, Supervisory, Evaluation, and Child Welfare trainings. An example of this is the work done with VVDB with Native American Communities. Reservations are unique environments that are part of independent nations. The wraparound process as is typically implemented in non-Indian society must be substantially modified to reflect the culture of the tribes or bands with whom VVDB works. VVDB works with tribes and bands to assess the areas that need customization, and then produce curriculum that are unique to each tribe. These materials then can be used by local trainers, ideally after they go through VVDB Train the Trainers workshops.
