With the completion of the online learning platform, Vroon VDB is opening enrollment for coaches and supervisors to become certified MiiWrap coaches.
The Foundations of MiiWrap online training is our newest way to train staff in MiiWrap. One of the cornerstones of the course is that each learner is guided by a MiiWrap coach. This ensures each staff understands the MiiWrap mindset and skills and applies them with fidelity to achieve the best outcomes for youth and families. In order for training to be implemented in a new organization, they need a coach. This could be a coach they train from their own agency, or one they pay through Vroon VDBs network of coaches. Are you a current Wraparound coach or supervisor looking to become a MiiWrap coach? Starting this month, we are offering training for current coaches or supervisors in using the new eLearning system and we will certify them to train staff in MiiWrap at their own or other agencies.
Why does an agency need a coach?
Vroon VDB has a long history of training excellent coaches. Our strategies for coaching are developed out of the latest adult learning research and our 25-year history training Wrapround and MiiWrap professionals. We developed strategies for maximizing training transfer, decreasing turnover, and turning agencies into learning communities. Many coaches have started their coaching journey through our intensive coach workshops in beautiful Red Rocks, Colorado. We have developed a more effective way to train coaches and staff through integrated multi-media eLearning curricula. For those of you who miss the Red Rocks experience we will be having learning community meetings for all certified coaches as soon as it is safe.
Certifying coaches involves extensive training in the functions and craft knowledge of effective coaching. It teaches coaches how to be the driving force in creating a strong learning organization. Certification of coaches improves quality of services and outcomes, increases staff satisfaction, and saves money. Certified coaches are also eligible to be paid to coach at agencies other than their own.
Details on the training
The curriculum focuses on a competency-based process for supporting staff to provide fidelity MiiWrap as quickly as possible and continually improve their skills and outcomes. Coach training is beginning now, with small classes starting every several weeks. The training spans three parts.
First, coaches complete the Foundations of MiiWrap eLearning curriculum. The first nine sessions of the coach training are focused on debriefing this curriculum, to understand how best to support new staff through it.
Second, the next 10 training and debriefing sessions cover coaching-specific topics. This includes
- The role and function of the MiiWrap coach
- Using the Foundations of MiiWrap eLearning curriculum to train new and existing staff
- Using the eLearning platform to manage training and coaching
- Learning to motivate and build competence and self-efficacy in staff
- Using observational learning strategies through and after the eLearning
- Creating a strengths-based culture of learning and ongoing individualized professional growth
- Advanced coaching strategies and supplemental materials for critical aspects of MiiWrap
Third, each coach will receive individualized feedback throughout the first two parts and support to develop a follow-up plan to complete certification. Certification can be completed while using the eLearning curriculum to train and coach existing or new staff. The plan is developed with individual feedback and support from the trainers.
Coaches for the coaches
Enrolled coaches will progress through training with the aid of two MiiWrap coaches: Jim Rast and Sharon Weber. Jim has been training teams to implement first high-fidelity Wraparound and then MiiWrap for decades. Sharon is a senior clinical trainer for Magellan Wyoming Care Management Entity and is leading the effort to implement MiiWrap statewide in Wyoming. She is supporting development of and using the eLearning curriculum.
